Since its inception in 1989, Triticom's strategy has been to provide the most
functionality for the lowest cost in the software-based network analysis tool market. We
are constantly improving our products through periodic upgrades that add more functions
and greater utility. Triticom is proud to announce the Version 3.5 upgrade to our award
winning LANdecoder32 network analysis product. The following new features have been
added:
- Enhanced Wireless Network Support: A new (abstract)
Wireless frame header is defined, which allows for better decoding and simpler capture and
filtering based on Wireless frame characteristics. A new Wireless Channel Statistics
window, combined with a new Wireless Channel Scanning capability allows for simpler
discovery and monitoring of the wireless networks in your environment. You can also
now change the Wireless channel being monitored without closing and re-opening the
adapter. The ability to decrypt Wireless frames which employ WEP encryption has also
been added.
- AccuCapture driver support has been added for LinkSys LNE100TX (v5.1) PCI
Ethernet adapter; LinkSys PCMPC200 (v2) and PCM200 (v2) CardBus Ethernet adapters.
- Stability improvements related to long-term monitoring operation
(days/weeks) and continuous DNS name lookup are also included.
The following features were added with release of v3.4:
- A new AccuCapture driver provides support for Cisco AIR-PCM350 Series and
Xircom CWE1100 Series 802.11b adapters. This allows for monitoring/capture of 802.11 MAC
frame data in its native mode. Previously, 802.11 networks have only been able to be
monitored using NDIS drivers which provide emulated Ethernet/802.3 operation and mask all
details of underlying 802.11 operations.
- New protocol decodes for 802.11/WIFI, 802.1q, ICQ, and IPsec.
- Improved frame decoding efficiency. Depending upon the contents of a
trace file, decode time may be improved by as much as 50%.
- Enhanced protocol decodes for DHCP, BOOTP, ARP, DNS, and SNMP.
- Removed limitation of 256 files in "Capture to File" operation.
Now up to 65535 files may be handled.
- Alarm messages and notifications are now timestamped and logged.
The following features were added with releases 3.2 and 3.3 of
LANdecoder32:
- New "Expert" modes for IP: Time-to-Live Expiring, Source Address is Broadcast,
Zero Broadcast Address. New "Expert" modes for TCP: Ack Number Decreasing,
Window Size Exceeded, Ack Too Long, Idle Too Long, Slow Server.
- New protocol decodes for Cisco protocols HSRP, RSRB, CGMP, MSDP, CDP, VTP, EIGRP, ISL,
GDP, RUDP, LDP, PIM/SM, and PIM-DM.
- New protocol decodes for IETF protocols L2F, BGP4, CBT, MPLS, IGMP, DVMRP, and RSVP.
- New support for user-configurable memory usage in local NDIS and AccuCapture drivers.
User's can now determine how many items should be allocated for the Host, Conversation,
High-Level Host and High-Level Conversation functions of the local drivers.
- Greatly improved efficiency for maintaining and displaying host/conversation data where
thousands of hosts/conversations are displayed. Many of the substantive changes added in
LANdecoder32 v3.3 make long-term, historical monitoring of large or busy networks easier
and more efficient.
- LANdecoder32's driver architecture has been completely redesigned to
simplify installation and usage, and to support the wide range of Windows operating system
environments. Full support for Windows 2000 and Windows Millenium Edition (ME), including
Plug-and-Play AccuCapture drivers has been added. NDIS drivers load and unload
dynamically, so that no separate NDIS installation step is required, and there is no need
to re-boot after LANdecoder32 installation. Installing and using LANdecoder32 is now
easier than ever before.
- Decode Server/Client - a completely new addition to LANdecoder32 which
supports web-based trace viewing. A Java-based client communicates with a server process
running on the machine where LANdecoder32 is installed .
- Completely revised SNMP decode, which recognizes and decodes by name
the Object Identifiers (OIDs) of over 1000 SNMP-manageable objects.
- Top 10 Graphs have been extended and improved, with full support for
Top 10 "Conversation" graphs at both the MAC layer and Higher-Level protocol
layers.
- New AccuCapture driver support for Xircom's RealPort2 CardBus Ethernet
10/100 (R2BE-100) adapters.
With the features added in V3.5, the industry leading LANdecoder32
has raised the bar again in the software-based, network analysis tool market.

MONITORING INTERFACES
Local: Collect statistics and frames from the network to
which the LANdecoder32 is attached. There are two separate methods to perform local
monitoring/analysis: Microsofts NDIS drivers and Triticoms
AccuCapture Drivers. The NDIS drivers allow you to use the same adapter
simultaneously for network monitoring operations while talking with file servers, other
workgroup computers, and even remote RMON probes. For maximum performance and
high-fidelity error and statistic reporting, we recommend installing a supported adapter
which is dedicated to LANdecoder32 using the AccuCapture Driver. Triticom
designed its direct-to-the-adapter AccuCapture Drivers with the sole purpose of
streamlining and optimizing Ethernet network monitoring and frame capture under Windows
9X. Full support is provided for Win 2000, CardBus cards including Plug-and-Play.
Remote: Collect statistics and frames from any industry
standard RMON probes attached to the network. LANdecoder32 maintains
communications with the RMON probe so that network statistics can be
updated and viewed on your computer.
PROTOCOL DECODES WITH "EXPERT ANALYSIS"
Integrating technology from our other award-winning products, LANdecoder32 contains
detailed 7-layer OSI, color-coded decodes. Expert analysis is focused on TCP connection,
IP addressing, NCP transactions, and IPX addressing problems. A comprehensive list of
filters and triggers is available for pre-packet and post-packet capture analysis. These
include frame content, station, pattern, protocol, hex, and ASCII filters. Filters can be
easily configured using LANdecoder32s drag and drop support.
Sources/Destinations/Conversations windows operate at IP and IPX as well as at the MAC
level. An SNMP decode structure fully decodes over 1,000 SNMP objects.
Included in this release are new protocol decodes for 802.11/WiFi, 802.1q, ICQ, and
IPsec along with enhanced protocol decodes for DHCP, BOOTP, ARP, DNS and SNMP.
DECODE SERVER/CLIENT
Supports web-based trace viewing via a Java-based client running in the host machine.
This allows remote users to view captured data over the WWW.
TRAFFIC MONITORING
LANdecoder32 features sophisticated traffic monitoring functions on top of the
excellent protocol decodes. A robust set of reports can be generated at user-specified
time intervals and exported and studied in popular spreadsheet applications. Several
real-time displays, graphs, and network alarms can be configured. Additionally, remote
alarm notification via pager or e-mail is available. Alarm messages and
notifications are now time-stamped and logged.

VIEW NETWORK HEALTH STATISTICS VIA WEB BROWSER
By properly configuring a WWW server, and then saving Web
Export reports to that server, network statistics may be viewed using a Web browser. This
is accomplished using Triticoms WWW Report Viewer HTML pages and Java applets, which
are included with LANdecoder32.
FRAME TRANSMITTER
Define a frame to be transmitted one or more times over the
network. This is especially useful for inducing traffic loads on the LAN in order to check
performance and error levels. The frame contents can be specified using
LANdecoder32s drag and drop features.
ADDITIONAL DRIVER SUPPORT
INFORMATION
NDIS is supported transparently by dynamic loading of
adapter drivers as required. No special configuration or installation steps are required,
and no knowledge of adapter hardware settings and resources is needed.
Triticoms AccuCapture Drivers provide benefits
over NDIS drivers that are summarized below:
- Consistent error reporting. Six distinct classes of error frames are detected and
reported.
- Capture of error frames. Unlike NDIS, frames with low-level errors (such as Checksum
errors) can be captured by LANdecoder32 using AccuCapture Drivers.
|
- Consistent performance under heavy loads. AccuCapture Drivers are designed specifically
to support the operations required for network traffic monitoring and frame capture with
the highest possible level of performance. If network loads do surpass the capabilities of
your adapter/machine, the fact that frames are being dropped is accurately reported.
- No other drivers are required. Triticoms AccuCapture Drivers require no other
vendor-supplied software. They interface directly with the underlying network adapter
hardware for maximum performance.
- Operate as Plug-and Play devices.
PROTOCOL DECODE EXTENSION LIBRARY
A software development kit (SDK) is included which allows
you to "add-on" specialized or custom protocol decodes.
DETAILED ON-LINE HELP
LANdecoder32s on-line help system sets the standard for
state-of-the-art protocol analyzer help systems. Each decoded protocol has available (by
simply pressing F1) an explanation of the protocol, an example of the protocol decode, and
a detailed explanation of the protocol fields and their allowable values.
DESIGNED FOR WINDOWS 9X/2000/XP
Triticom has chosen the advanced Windows operating system from
Microsoft as its network management platform. The reason for this choice is simple
economics. Instead of the high cost management platforms promoted by competitors such as
HP and IBM, Windows 9X/2000/XP is readily available and convenient to use. This means
managing your network does not require that you first learn a "platform" and
then learn to operate your management system or protocol analyzer. Further, in many cases
using our competitors productssuch as OpenView, NetView, or SystemViewyour
total solution cost is dominated by the platform cost rather than the management
application cost.
WORLD-CLASS PERFORMANCE
Complex networks require flexible tools. A wide variety of network
interfacing options are critical for monitoring and management products. LANdecoder32
supports two distinct ways to monitor traffic and protocols on a network segment: remote
and local. Further, LANdecoder32 supports multiple local interfaces.
