Product Overview - LANdecoder SNMP Manager

Triticom announces the release of LANdecoder SNMP Manager V1.5. This 32-bit product integrates with our LANdecoder32 network analysis tool. By simply clicking on an icon, the network administrator can switch between network monitoring and analysis, and individual node management. LANdecoder SNMP Manager operates on Windows 9X/ME/2000/XP platforms, allowing the user to query and control any SNMP devices or agents on their network. An SNMP agent, even those located at a remote site, can be queried using the TCP/IP protocol. Some of LANdecoder SNMP Manager features include:

Network Maps - SNMP agents that are found can be organized into collapsible/expandable, hierarchical node lists for easy organization of the network layout. While LANdecoder SNMP Manager provides user selectable graphics such as US and world maps, custom graphics can be input such as building or campus layouts.

Menu Support - LANdecoder SNMP Manager provides easy to use menu commands that enable the user to query objects belonging to MIB-II, RMON, and Token-ring RMON groups. In addition, the SNMP; GET, GET-NEXT, and SET operations are supported.

Node Status - LANdecoder SNMP Manager polls network devices at user-defined intervals, and displays status changes with different colors. Status changes are displayed while SNMP traps are written to a log file, which can be viewed. Event filters can be created to perform desired functions when filter criteria are met, such as dial a pager or send an E-Mail.

Integrated MIB Compiler - includes a state-of-the-art MIB compiler that enables the user to add previously developed MIBs, that support specific applications, to the Manager. Also, new MIBs can be developed and compiled as they are required. The MIB Compiler adds a powerful tool to the SNMP Manager, which greatly expands its functionality. Ready-to-compile definitions for over 85 IETF standard MIBs are included.

User Defined Icons - When network maps are generated, the user can now input their own icons that depict network nodes or SNMP agents. This feature allows the user to implement a familiar set of graphics.

Improved MIB Table Display - V1.4 added the ability to explicitly display row indices in MIB tables.

Improved Trap Handling - V1.3 added the ability to filter traps based on any of: IP Addresses; Trap types; Communities; Enterprises. The ability to write trap information automatically to a file is also now included.

Easy-to-use MIB Browser - V1.2 added a description display in the MIB Browser window, which provides the complete description of the selected MIB. Thus the user is not forced to go to other reference documents in order to understand the functionality provided by a particular MIB.

Automatic Device Capability Polling - allows for automatic determination of which standard services are running on managed host computers (FTP, Telnet, SMTP, HTTP, DNS, and POP-3).

Usability Enhancements - V1.2 added an enhanced user interface with features such as: Browser Row Creation with cell drop-down selection and single or multiple editing of displayed table data.

LANdecoder SNMP Manager is a simple, easy to use SNMP Manager for Microsoft Windows™. With LANdecoder SNMP Manager, you can query and control any SNMP-capable device on your network. It can operate standalone or be integrated with Triticom’s LANdecoder 32 V 3.5.

SNMP devices or "agents" consist of bridges, routers, servers, workstations, or any other device that supports SNMP. SNMP is the standard "language" for communicating with RMON agents, such as Triticom’s RMONster™ RMON probe software. An SNMP agent can be contacted or queried anywhere on your network that is accessible using TCP/IP. The device may even be located at a remote office and managed across a WAN link.

NETWORK MAPS
SNMP agents to be queried can be organized into collapsible/expandable, hierarchical network/node lists for easy organization of your network layout. A "locate" function is provided which allows searching for a particular node among a group of possibly hundreds. Multiple maps may be utilized simultaneously.. Background bitmaps can be overlaid on the network maps to enhance user understanding of the presentation.

MANAGEMENT MENU SUPPORT
LANdecoder SNMP Manager includes easy-to-use menu commands for querying objects belonging to the MIB-II, RMON, and Token-Ring RMON groups. In addition GET, the powerful GET-NEXT, and SET operations are supported for user specified objects.

NODE QUERY RESPONSES
Responses to queries formulated from LANdecoder SNMP Manager’s menu commands are displayed in tabular (spreadsheet) format. The columns in the query response tables can be resized to display only the data of interest. These tables can also be automatically updated based upon the selected poll interval.

GRAPHS
Graphing of up to four variables from any response table is accomplished simply by selecting them. Graphs are then updated on a periodic basis.

DEVICE CAPABILITY POLLING
Automatic determination of which standard services are running on managed host computers (FTP, Telnet, SMTP, HTTP, DNS, and POP-3).

DEDICATED TRAP WINDOW
A dedicated trap log is provided for monitoring SNMP traps.

INTEGRATED MIB COMPILER
LANdecoder SNMP Manager includes a MIB compiler to support user design of custom MIBs for specific applications. The Manager includes pre-compiled MIB definitions for MIB-II, RMON, and Token-Ring Extensions to RMON, , RMON-II, and the Bridge-MIB. Ready-to-compile definitions for over 85 IETF standard MIBs are also included.

CONFIGURABLE POLL INTERVAL
Allows the user to set the node poll time interval to suit their needs.

COMPREHENSIVE HELP SYSTEM
LANdecoder SNMP Manager includes a comprehensive help system designed to give the user detailed instructions on its various features. The MIB-II, RMON, and the Token-Ring Extensions to RMON MIBs are included in the help file for easy access to the definitions for manageable objects.
